Meet Us: Senior Manager and Manager

Senior Manager

Joined in 2008 as a Manager

Education: MBA, Wharton; BA, Brandeis University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) in Economics and Psychology

Background: I love the healthcare industry and prioritize intellectual stimulation and impact when making career choices. Prior to Putnam, I'd worked at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), and Merck & Co., Inc. pharmaceuticals.

I initially chose Putnam for two reasons. The first was the work content, which is highly satisfying because it's interesting and impactful. For instance, when choosing whether or not to invest in a new innovation or a follow-on opportunity, pharmaceutical companies face considerable risks. They need an in-depth understanding of the market opportunities and challenges and a rigorous cost-and-revenue forecast for each option. They can rely on Putnam to inform their choices; we are known for our experience and success in product strategy, market research and forecasting.

The second reason I chose Putnam was because the location, for me, is perfect. My husband and I have relocated more than once for work. But we recently had a son and were ready to settle in Boston near family. Working in Burlington allows me to avoid the congested commute into the city and to maximize time with my family.

Since joining, I have come to appreciate Putnam for a third reason: the award-winning social environment. I've worked in cut-throat, up-or-out environments that breed paranoia and aggression. Putnam is different. We recruit for talent and a certain fit; folks here are extremely intelligent, successful, and wonderful to work with. Putnam understands work-life balance and, for example, was enormously supportive during my working-pregnancy and maternity leave, and welcoming upon my return.

Senior Manager

Joined in 2000 as an Associate Consultant

Education: Undergraduate degree in International Management from Fontys University in the Netherlands. Two internships, the first at DISA, a division of the AP Moller-Maersk group in Denmark, and the second at Daelmans Pastries in the U.K. Graduate degree in International Marketing from the University of Strathclyde in the U.K., one of the highest regarded marketing programs in Europe that attracts students from over 30 countries.

Background: At the end of my studies, I was attracted to consulting as I saw this as a unique opportunity to face a variety of business problems within a relatively short time period. In my search for an attractive consultancy, I came across Putnam Associates and was intrigued by the type of work they did and the passion with which they talked about their work.

Having been at Putnam since 2000, I can truthfully say that I constantly feel like part of a team. Within the firm, we work in project teams that typically consist of a Partner, Manager or Consultant, Associate Consultants and a number of Analysts. Although this may seem rather hierarchical, access and interaction between all levels prevails. At Putnam, we look for people who are not afraid to share their opinions with their project team members. Even someone who only started two weeks earlier is expected to contribute.

You will also find that each team has its own support network in which members will proactively share their knowledge with each other. Not only do we depend on the experience and expertise of each case team members, we often ask other colleagues not involved in the case for help or advice. You will never be refused if you ask someone to give you a hand. In summary, if you are looking to work for a company that truly believes in a team-oriented approach to resolve problems, Putnam is an attractive place to be.
