Education: Graduated from Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, with a BSE in Biomedical Engineering
Background: I majored in Biomedical Engineering at Duke due to my interest in the health care industry and biomedical research. I had diverse internships that ranged from research on a novel drug delivery mechanism to designing components of surgical instruments. Consulting was always tossed around as a career option for engineers but I had never seriously considered it until I started applying to full time positions in the fall of my senior year. I quickly realized that as a healthcare consultant I would still be able to use the skills from engineering that I liked the most—working in teams and problem solving. Even though I am not directly involved in creating a formulation for a new drug or designing a medical device, Putnam’s role in helping to determine business strategies is an essential part of bringing new healthcare innovations to the market for physicians and patients to use.
Putnam stood out to me because of its small size. Very shortly after arriving I knew everyone at the firm and felt just as comfortable speaking to an analyst or associate about my weekend plans as I did with one of the partners. I really appreciate having those relationships after working at a large company where the executives had offices in a completely different building.
I have found the work that I am doing to be both challenging and interesting. I have already learned so much and my colleagues both on and off of my case team have gone out of their way to help me get up to speed. From day one I felt that my contributions to our case were essential to our success. I continue to be impressed with how dedicated, driven, and intelligent everyone is as well. Our specialization in one industry allows us to provide our clients with a depth of knowledge that is extremely valuable. It is clear that our clients are pleased with the work we do for them and it is very common for us to be asked to do additional projects for them.
I am very excited to continue to grow and develop over my next few years here. Putnam allows employees to stay on and be promoted within the company without leaving and attending business school. Although I am planning on eventually attending business school, it is great to have the option open to continue working here. I know that my experiences at Putnam will give me great preparation for anything that I hope to pursue in the future.
