Education: Graduated from Yale University with a BA in Economics
Background: In college, I majored in economics in the context of a broader liberal arts education. After my junior year, I worked in finance, which further developed my quantitative skill set. As I approached graduation, I looked for a career that would touch on these varied facets of my background. Strategy consulting quickly caught my attention because of the opportunities to examine and address the most challenging problems faced by industry-leading companies from a variety of scales and perspectives. Because of my coursework on and interest in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, I looked for an opportunity where I could see the tangible impact of my work in these fields.
I have learned a phenomenal amount in the short time I have worked in the field of consulting. Putnam's small size offers a unique opportunity to take on a large amount of responsibility at the analyst level. From the first day, I have been expected to think creatively and critically about challenges faced by our client, rather than just blindly carrying out tasks. Our projects constantly push us to adapt to developments in this extremely dynamic playing field. Since we are staffed on new projects every couple of months, we are constantly learning and challenging ourselves.
From the beginning, Putnam's culture has impressed me. As I explored a variety of consulting opportunities during my senior year, I was particularly struck by the caliber of people I met at Putnam Associates. In addition to being extremely sharp and highly motivated, everyone at Putnam was friendly, dedicated, and genuinely interested in the mutual development of fellow coworkers. Since I've started at Putnam, everyone has continued to be extremely helpful and willing to provide opportunities for growth, especially through our established mentorship program. As I consider business school and my future career, I feel strongly that Putnam will have equipped me to confidently navigate challenges in the healthcare industry and beyond.
