Careers:

Descriptions: Associate Consultant

The Associate Consultant role is a natural extension of the Analyst position and many Associates at Putnam are Analysts who have been promoted after one year. However, Putnam does actively hire into this role as well. Individuals who join as Associate Consultants generally have several years of post-undergraduate work experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, or drug discovery and commercialization. Those who succeed in this position have proven analytical skills, a strong quantitative background, and have demonstrated excellence both as undergraduates and during previous employment experience.

Associate Consultants and Analysts share the set of activities outlined on the Analyst page. However, with their added experience, Associates are also responsible for additional sophisticated and management-oriented tasks:

  • Lead modules of the project work and drive analytical insights
  • Coach Analysts in primary research and data collection activities
  • Direct and provide quality control for the team's research and analytical work
  • Build complex financial models to assess the impact of strategic options on a product's future performance
  • Undertake highly analytical projects including adaptive conjoint analysis, pricing sensitivity testing, and sales force effectiveness mapping
  • Work alongside Managers and Partners to help define initial hypotheses, develop commercial insights and communicate findings to the client

Associate Consultants develop novel strategic and management tools that provide a strong foundation for career growth. Putnam strongly values the experience of its team members and exceptional performers have the opportunity to be promoted to the Consultant level without an advanced degree. Others choose to go on to top business and graduate schools, and some take on new challenges outside of consulting.
